The tummy panel is knitted on two needles, knitting every row instead of knitting and purling every other. It gives a nice ribbed pattern. Be sure to keep a long tail at the beginning to use to knit the panel onto the body.

The back ridge is a long cast on with wraps and turns on the cast off to make ridges. It is knitted every row to help prevent curling. I usually have to divide my stitches onto two needles as if I was knitting in the round, but circular needles would work even better.
